Microsoft Edge Game Assist: A Game-Aware Browser
Microsoft has launched a Preview test version of their latest in-game browser, Edge Game Assist, designed to enhance your gaming experience. Dive into the details to discover its game-aware features and more!
Edge Game Assist: The Gaming-Optimized Browser
Introducing The Game-Aware Tab
Microsoft has introduced the Preview build of Edge Game Assist, an innovative in-game browser tailored for PC gaming. Microsoft's research indicates that "88% of PC players use a browser while gaming to seek help, track their progress, or enjoy music and chat with friends. This often requires switching to another device or using Alt-Tab, which can disrupt gameplay." Recognizing this inconvenience, Microsoft developed Edge Game Assist to offer a seamless solution.
Edge Game Assist is described as "the first in-game browser that delivers a rich gaming-centric browsing experience, including access to your browser data from both your PC and mobile devices." This specialized version of Microsoft Edge overlays your game through the Game Bar, allowing you to browse without needing to Alt-Tab. It syncs with your regular Edge browser, ensuring that your favorites, history, cookies, and form fills are readily accessible without the need to log in again.
A standout feature is the "game-aware tab page," which automatically suggests tips and guides for the game you're playing. Microsoft's data shows that "40% of PC players seek tips, guides, and other assistance during gameplay." Edge Game Assist streamlines this process by providing these resources at the click of a new tab. You can even pin this tab to keep the widget visible in real-time, making it easier to follow guides without interrupting your gameplay.
Currently, this feature is available for a select group of popular games during the beta test phase. Microsoft promises to expand support to more games in the future. The currently supported games include:
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Diablo IV
- Fortnite
- Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga
- League of Legends
- Minecraft
- Overwatch 2
- Roblox
- Valorant
Keep an eye out for additional games to be supported soon!
To start using Edge Game Assist, download the Beta or Preview version of Microsoft Edge and set it as your default browser. Navigate to the Settings in the Edge Beta or Preview window, search for Game Assist, and follow the prompts to install the widget.
