Microsoft Will Soon Integrate its Copilot AI Into the Xbox App — and Eventually Into Your Xbox Games
Microsoft's AI Copilot is expanding its reach, gearing up to enhance the Xbox gaming experience. Soon, Xbox Insiders will get a sneak peek via the Xbox mobile app. This AI chatbot, already integrated into Windows (and replacing Cortana in 2023), will offer a range of helpful features.
Initially, Copilot for gaming will assist with tasks like installing games (though that's already a simple one-button process on the app), checking your play history, achievements, and game library, and even suggesting what to play next. Direct voice interaction within the Xbox app during gameplay will also be available, providing answers similar to its Windows counterpart.

A key feature will be Copilot's role as a gaming assistant. Similar to its current PC functionality, you'll be able to ask questions about games—such as boss strategies or puzzle solutions—and receive answers sourced from various online resources. This functionality will soon extend to the Xbox app.
Microsoft emphasizes accuracy, stating they're collaborating with game studios to ensure information provided reflects the developers' vision and always links back to the original source.
But Microsoft's ambitions extend beyond the initial features. Future possibilities include walkthrough assistance, item tracking, real-time competitive game strategy suggestions, and post-engagement analysis. While these are currently conceptual, they highlight Microsoft's commitment to deep Copilot integration with Xbox gameplay, encompassing both first-party and third-party titles.

Regarding data privacy, Microsoft confirms that during the Xbox Insider preview, users will have control over Copilot interaction, data access, and usage. However, the possibility of mandatory Copilot usage in the future remains open. A spokesperson stated: "During this preview on mobile, players will be able to decide how and when they want to interact with Copilot for Gaming, whether it has access to their conversation history, and what it does on their behalf. As we preview and test Copilot for Gaming with players early, we will continue to be transparent about what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices players have around sharing their personal data."
Beyond player-focused applications, Microsoft will detail developer-centric plans at the Game Developers Conference next week.
