Marvel Brings Back Baddie From 2008's Iron Man for MCU Vision Quest Series
Marvel is bringing back a villain from the very first MCU film, Iron Man, for its upcoming series, Vision Quest. Deadline reports that Faran Tahir will reprise his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the leader of the Afghan terrorist group that held Tony Stark captive in the film's opening sequence. This marks a return for the character almost two decades after his initial appearance. His betrayal by Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) concluded his role in Iron Man, but he's now set for a comeback.
While Vision Quest, starring Paul Bettany as White Vision, has yet to receive a release date, the inclusion of Hamidmi al-Wazar adds an intriguing element. Similar to Samuel Sterns' reappearance in Captain America: Brave New World, this unexpected return hints at the MCU's interconnected storytelling.

Initially depicted as the head of a generic terrorist group, Hamidmi al-Wazar's backstory was significantly expanded in Phase 4. Subtle hints linked him to the Ten Rings, a connection further solidified in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This retroactive inclusion suggests a potential link between Vision Quest and the events of Shang-Chi.
However, it's also possible that Vision Quest will utilize Hamidmi al-Wazar in a way similar to Deadpool & Wolverine's approach to the Fox Marvel universe—exploring previously forgotten or underdeveloped aspects of the official MCU.
Adding to the intrigue, James Spader is also reportedly returning as Ultron, his first appearance since Avengers: Age of Ultron. Details about Vision Quest remain scarce, leaving fans to speculate on how these returning characters will shape the narrative.
