Jason Momoa Hints at Lobo's Role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Jason Momoa, renowned for his role as Aquaman in the previous DC Extended Universe, is set to take on the character of Lobo in the upcoming 2026 DC Universe film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, is known for his superhuman strength and immortality, and shares the tragic fate of being the last survivor of his world, much like Superman. The character was first introduced by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in Omega Men #3 back in 1983.
Momoa has expressed his excitement and nervousness about stepping into the shoes of Lobo, a character he has long admired and felt a personal connection with due to aesthetic similarities. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa hinted at what fans can expect from Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He emphasized the importance of the role to him and assured fans that his portrayal would be faithful to the comic, highlighting Lobo's rough and gruff demeanor and even teasing the cool design of Lobo's bike. However, he also noted that Lobo's screen time would be limited, stating, "It's her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
In related news, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first image of Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, signaling the start of filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The film is heavily inspired by the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira, which follows the story of an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, seeking vengeance for her father's murder with the help of Supergirl.
The cast of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow includes Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother. The film is slated for release in June 2026, following the premiere of Gunn's Superman this summer and preceding the DCU Clayface movie in September 2026.
