Henry Cavill's 'Tremendous' James Bond Audition Seemingly Appears Online
In a fascinating turn of events, audition tapes from 2005 featuring Henry Cavill's take on James Bond have surfaced online, offering fans a glimpse into what could have been. These tapes, which were shared on the Ron South YouTube channel, an avid filmmaker's platform with 1,890 subscribers, also included auditions from Sam Worthington, Rupert Friend, and Anthony Starr. However, it's Cavill's performance that has captured the most attention over the years.
Many in the industry, including Casino Royale director Martin Campbell, have praised Cavill's audition, with Campbell describing it as "tremendous." In fact, Campbell reportedly favored Cavill for the iconic role of 007. Despite this, Cavill ultimately lost the part to Daniel Craig, as other decision-makers had different preferences.
While Cavill didn't get to portray Bond, he did get to explore the spy genre in the film Argylle, where he starred alongside a stellar cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine O’Hara. Unfortunately, Argylle did not fare well with critics, receiving a disappointing 4/10 from IGN.
Despite this setback, Cavill's career remains robust and diverse. He has portrayed iconic characters such as Superman in the DC universe, Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher, and many other roles, showcasing his versatility and talent in the entertainment industry.
