Many players are curious about GTA Online's future after GTA 6 releases. While Rockstar hasn't confirmed specifics, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick offered promising insights during a February 14, 2025 interview with IGN.

Zelnick avoided discussing specific titles but drew an interesting parallel: "Speaking theoretically - since we don't discuss unannounced projects - we maintain support for our games as long as players remain active," he explained.

He cited NBA 2K Online's example in China, where the original 2012 version continues running alongside its 2017 sequel due to strong player bases. "We've demonstrated willingness to support legacy titles when communities remain engaged," Zelnick noted.

This suggests Rockstar might sustain GTA Online post-GTA 6 launch, especially considering its decade-long revenue generation and enduring popularity.

Reports indicate Rockstar is developing a GTA 6 Online with user-generated content capabilities, similar to Roblox and Fortnite, according to a February 17, 2025 Digiday article.

"Rockstar has reportedly consulted with top creators from Roblox, Fortnite, and the GTA modding community about implementing custom experiences," Digiday revealed. This UGC system would let players modify environments and assets.

Beyond expanding GTA 6's reach through creator content, this approach could generate additional revenue through virtual item sales. Rockstar declined to comment when contacted by Digiday.

Despite its age, GTA 5 remains Twitch's third most-watched game. Incorporating modding tools could further amplify GTA 6's visibility across platforms.
