GTA 6 Trailer 2: Release Date Confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC Omitted

The release of the Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 and a significant update to its official website have spotlighted the launch platforms for the game, set to release on May 26, 2026. The trailer clearly displayed the release date alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S logos, confirming that these consoles will be part of GTA 6's initial launch. Notably, the trailer was captured on a PS5, specifically highlighting the PS5 model rather than the PS5 Pro.

In an interview with IGN in February, Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, addressed this concern. He hinted at GTA 6's eventual release on PC, noting, “So with Civ 7 it's available on console and PC and Switch right away. With regard to others in our lineup, we don't always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms.”

GTA 6 is slated for a console-only launch initially. Rockstar fans have observed the studio's historical reluctance to launch games on PC simultaneously with consoles, coupled with its complex relationship with the modding community. Despite this, many hoped that a game as monumental as GTA 6 might signal a change in the studio's approach to PC gaming.

Major Rockstar titles typically reach PC platforms eventually, yet the timing for GTA 6 remains uncertain. Could PC gamers expect the game in Fall 2027, Early 2027, or perhaps a year later in May 2027? A former Rockstar developer in December 2023 attempted to shed light on why GTA 6 will first launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, urging PC gamers to be patient and give the studio the “benefit of the doubt” regarding its launch strategy.

Zelnick told IGN that the PC version of a multiplatform game can contribute up to 40% of total sales, or even more with specific titles. He emphasized the increasing importance of the PC market, stating, “We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue. Of course, there will be a new console generation.”

As for the Nintendo Switch 2, there was no mention or logo featured in GTA 6 Trailer 2, which aligns with expectations. Although the capabilities of the Switch 2 remain undisclosed, it is set to receive CD Projekt's Cyberpunk 2077. Given that GTA 6 is also planned for the less powerful Xbox Series S, there was some hope it might also appear on Nintendo's next-generation console.
