Civ 7 Devs Contemplate Reintroducing Past Civilizations and Their Leaders

Hope remains alive for fans of Gandhi as a leader in Civilization 7. This was revealed following an insightful interview with Civ 7's lead designer, Ed Beach, conducted by IGN on February 13, 2025. Beach suggested that while Gandhi's inclusion in the game is not immediate, it could happen in the future through DLC.

During the IGN interview, Beach shed light on the decision-making process behind the selection of civilizations and leaders for Civ 7. "We haven't forgotten about any of the civilizations that have been part of our game before," Beach stated. He acknowledged the community's concerns about the absence of significant civilizations like Great Britain or England, saying, "There's a lot of consternation right now about where's Great Britain or England, why aren't they in our game?"

Beach elaborated on the reasoning behind excluding Britain and India from the initial release of Civ 7. "There are just too many popular choices, and we always want to include a few fresh ones that sound really new and exciting to people," he explained. He emphasized the broader strategy of the game's development, noting, "So things are getting left behind, but we are always looking at the big picture, considering when we're going to bring leaders or civs back into the fold. So there's hope for Gandhi, yet."

Given the extensive history of DLC releases in Civilization 6, it's reasonable to anticipate that Gandhi will eventually make his way into Civilization 7. However, the precise timeline for his return remains uncertain at this point.
