GameCube Fans Excited for Switch 2 Due to New Nintendo Filings
The excitement among Nintendo fans has been reignited by recent filings hinting at a new GameCube controller designed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. According to Nintendo Life, a fresh FCC filing for a "game controller" aligns with the Switch 2, suggesting it could be a wireless Bluetooth controller. The internet, particularly on Famiboards, has delved deeper into this mystery. They believe that one of the images in the filing shows a label location that matches the back of a GameCube controller, specifically behind the C-Stick.
While it's possible this could be a new version of the Switch Pro Controller, current speculation leans towards its integration with Nintendo's Switch Online subscription service. This service already supports wireless classic controllers for retro gaming, and the addition of a GameCube controller could signal the inclusion of GameCube classics in the library. Nintendo fans have long awaited the addition of GameCube games to the Switch Online service, which currently offers titles from NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy. Could the Nintendo Switch 2 finally bring GameCube games back in a significant way?
Nintendo Consoles
The Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled earlier in January with a brief trailer that confirmed its backwards compatibility features and the addition of a second USB-C port. However, many details, such as other games and the function of the mysterious new Joy-Con button, remain undisclosed. The Joy-Con mouse theory has gained some traction among fans. Last month, a Nintendo patent suggested that the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down. The new console uses gyro mechanics similar to those in smartphones without screen lock. Unlike the original Switch, which used rails for Joy-Con attachment, the Switch 2 employs magnets, allowing for versatile attachment on either side. This could enhance gameplay by letting players customize button and port placement. If implemented, this flipping feature might introduce innovative gameplay mechanics.

Analysts predict that the Switch 2 will be priced at around $400, though some speculate it could reach up to $500. June has been floated as a potential release month. While much remains unknown about the Switch 2, Nintendo has scheduled a Direct for April 2, where more details about the console will be revealed. In the meantime, fans can enjoy a taste of GameCube nostalgia with Metroid Prime Remastered on the current Nintendo Switch.
