Elden Ring Nightreign: Scalpers and Scammers Unchecked
FromSoftware has thrilled fans by sending out confirmation emails for the upcoming Elden Ring Nightreign Network Test. Announced on their Twitter (X) page on January 30, 2025, those who applied for the test are buzzing with excitement and gratitude upon receiving their emails. If you were among the selected, expect a follow-up email on February 11, 2025, containing a unique code to download the Network Test client on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. Unfortunately, those who didn't receive an email won't have another chance as no additional dates for the network test have been announced.
The Elden Ring Nightreign Network Test, scheduled from February 14 to February 16, 2025, is crucial for FromSoftware. It serves as a "preliminary verification test" where selected testers will explore a portion of the game before its full launch. This test is essential for conducting large-scale network load tests to ensure the servers can handle multiple players simultaneously. Participants will have five 3-hour sessions to playtest the game:
- Session 1: February 14th from 3 AM to 6 AM PT
- Session 2: February 14th from 7 PM to 10 PM PT
- Session 3: February 15th from 11 AM to 2 PM PT
- Session 4: February 16th from 3 AM to 6 AM PT
- Session 5: February 16th from 7 PM to 10 PM PT
However, the excitement is marred by reports of scammers and scalpers already taking advantage of the situation. There's an ongoing scam on Steam where players are receiving fake invites to the Elden Ring Nightreign Network Test. Clicking these invites leads to suspicious pages that can hack accounts and spam friends with similar invites. FromSoftware has clarified that all official communications regarding the playtest are only through their website and social media accounts, making any other links unauthorized and potentially dangerous.
Furthermore, scalpers have jumped into action, listing "confirmed test codes" on various buy-and-sell sites with exorbitant prices ranging from $150 to $200, some even listed for auction, despite the codes not being available until February 11.
Elden Ring Nightreign was first unveiled at The Game Awards 2024, set to release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. While FromSoftware has set a 2025 release window, the exact date remains undisclosed.
