Reddit user Matrix_030 discovered that two of Placidusax's missing heads are embedded in the neck of Bayle the Dread, another formidable dragon boss. Bayle himself is also significantly injured, missing wings and limbs, suggesting a brutal battle between the two.

The Talisman of the Dread, found in Elder's Hovel, further illuminates this ancient conflict. Its description details a challenge issued by Bayle to Placidusax, resulting in "grievous mutual injury."

Despite their wounds, both dragons remain formidable foes. They are among Elden Ring's toughest dragon encounters, boasting large health pools and complex attack patterns. Bayle's aggressive fighting style makes summoning Spirit Ashes difficult at the fight's start, unless specific strategies are employed.

While the location of Placidusax's third head remains unknown, many fans speculate that Bayle is also responsible for its loss.
