Disney Mirrorverse Set to Shutter by Year-End

Disney Mirrorverse, the mobile action RPG featuring a unique blend of Disney and Pixar characters, is shutting down. Developer Kabam announced the game's end-of-service (EOS) date as December 16th, 2024. The game has already been removed from the Google Play Store, and in-app purchases are disabled. Players have approximately three months of remaining playtime before the servers are permanently deactivated.

Launched in June 2022, Disney Mirrorverse offered a compelling premise: a reimagined universe populated by iconic Disney and Pixar heroes and villains. While initially generating significant excitement, particularly among Disney fans, the game's extended beta period and infrequent content updates contributed to player attrition.

The game's monetization, centered around a resource-intensive shard collection system, presented a significant barrier to fully developing characters without substantial in-game spending. Despite this, the game's character designs and overall graphics were widely praised.

The abrupt EOS announcement, especially following a recent content update that included Cinderella as a playable character, surprised many players. This isn't Kabam's first game closure; they previously shut down Transformers: Forged to Fight and a Marvel Contest of Champions spin-off.

The unexpected closure leaves many questioning the future of mobile games with similar ambitious crossovers. What are your thoughts on the Disney Mirrorverse shutdown?
