Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 Devs Won’t Say Whether They’ll Ban Elon Musk for Account Boosting
Elon Musk's admission to paying for account boosting in Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2 has sparked controversy, prompting questions about the integrity of the games and the response from developers Blizzard Entertainment and Grinding Gear Games. Screenshots of a private conversation reveal Musk admitting to using account boosting, a violation of both games' terms of service. This practice involves paying others to level up accounts, granting an unfair advantage.
Following the revelation, players voiced concerns on official forums, questioning why Musk hasn't been banned. They argue that his actions undermine fair play and the credibility of the developers' enforcement of rules against real money trading (RMT). Both Blizzard and Grinding Gear Games declined to comment on individual player accounts or enforcement actions.
Musk has previously boasted about his gaming skills, claiming a top 20 world ranking in Diablo IV and possessing a high-level Path of Exile 2 character (since deceased). However, his gameplay has been scrutinized, with some questioning his ability to achieve such high levels given his numerous business commitments. A livestream further fueled these doubts, showcasing a lack of understanding of game mechanics.
A video posted by YouTuber NikoWrex shows a direct message conversation where Musk admits to account boosting, claiming it was necessary to compete with Asian players. He clarified that while his streams and videos are authentic, the high-level characters were achieved through boosting. Musk’s former partner, Grimes, offered a defense, claiming to have witnessed his gaming prowess in other titles. Further allegations surfaced when his Path of Exile 2 character was active while Musk attended Trump's inauguration in Washington. The lack of response from the game developers leaves the question of whether billionaires are exempt from game rules unanswered.
