- This accidental Tower update may be related to a scrapped event named Days of the Dawning and a forgotten schedule date.
- Bungie has yet to acknowledge the surprise update, leaving players to enjoy it before it's removed.
Destiny players were taken aback when they noticed that the Tower zone in the original Destiny game received a mysterious and surprising update, complete with lights and decorations, seven years after its initial release. Although Destiny was largely replaced by Destiny 2 in 2017, as Bungie shifted their focus to the sequel, some fans still hold a deep nostalgia for the original game. Bungie has been integrating legacy content from Destiny into Destiny 2, including classic raids like Vault of Glass and King's Fall, as well as iconic exotics like the Icebreaker sniper rifle. Despite these additions, a dedicated community continues to play the original Destiny, and it was these players who stumbled upon the unexpected update in the Tower.
On January 5, reports surfaced online about the strange and surprising update to Destiny's hub zone, The Tower. Upon logging in, players were greeted with Ghost-shaped lights arranged in a pattern reminiscent of past seasonal events like The Dawning. However, the social space lacked the usual snow and the Banners were slightly different from those seen in previous live events. Additionally, there were no new quest indicators or messages to suggest that a new event was active.
Accidental Destiny Tower Update Could Be From a Scrapped Event
In the absence of any official statement from Bungie, fans began to speculate about the cause of the update. Some players, including Breshi and others on Reddit, pointed to a scrapped event called Days of the Dawning, which was originally planned to launch in 2016 following the popular Taken King expansion. Breshi's video showcased unused assets that closely resembled those now appearing in The Tower. It's believed that the event was assigned a temporary future date after being canceled, with the intention of removing it later, as Bungie likely assumed Destiny would no longer be active by then.
As of the time of writing, Bungie has not acknowledged the update to the Destiny 1 Tower. The year 2017 marked a significant transition for the franchise, with all live and seasonal events moving to Destiny 2 following its launch. While this update isn't an official event, players can log in and enjoy this unexpected surprise before Bungie eventually removes it.
