Author : Brooklyn Apr 17,2025

In the latest "here comes a new remake" news—or, if you're a bit more optimistic, "here comes another Stephen King movie" news—a brand new adaptation of Cujo is set to bare its teeth. Netflix is gearing up to produce a fresh film version of Stephen King's chilling tale, as reported by Deadline, with Vertigo Entertainment's founder and producer Roy Lee at the helm. However, the project is still in its early stages, with no writers, directors, or cast members attached yet.

Originally published in 1981, King's novel Cujo was swiftly adapted into a cult classic horror movie in 1983, penned by Don Carlos Dunaway and Barbara Turner, and directed by Lewis Teague. The gripping story follows a determined mother, portrayed by Dee Wallace, who will stop at nothing to protect her young son from a rabid dog. The harrowing tale unfolds as the duo finds themselves trapped in a car with a dead engine, fighting for survival against Cujo—a once-friendly dog turned deadly after being bitten by a rabid bat—as they battle heatstroke and the relentless threat outside.

Cujo is just one of many beloved Stephen King stories that have successfully transitioned to the screen over the years. There's been a recent resurgence in King adaptations, with Oz Perkins' take on King's short story The Monkey released in February. Fans also have much to look forward to, including the Glen Powell-led adaptation of The Running Man, JT Mollner's interpretation of The Long Walk (also produced by Roy Lee and Vertigo), and the IT prequel series Welcome to Derry coming to HBO. Additionally, the iconic horror film Carrie is set to be reimagined as an eight-episode series on Prime Video, brought to life by horror maestro Mike Flanagan.
