Cow in Mario Kart World Eats Burgers, Steak
In the midst of the usual news frenzy about tariffs and Nintendo Switch 2 pricing, IGN brought us a delightful distraction this Friday: a report from a Nintendo event in New York where they played the newly announced Mario Kart World. One of the highlights? The confirmation that the new playable character, the Moo Moo Meadows Cow, can indeed indulge in a variety of foods, including burgers and steak.
For those unfamiliar, Mario Kart World recently introduced the Moo Moo Meadows Cow as a racer, sparking a wave of excitement across the internet with memes and fanart celebrating this formerly background character. However, the reveal also raised an intriguing question among fans: given that Mario was seen eating a burger in the Nintendo Direct 2 trailer, would Cow, whose species is typically associated with beef, also eat beef?
At the event, IGN discovered that food items featured in the trailer are available at Yoshi's diner locations throughout the game's courses. These diners operate like drive-thrus, allowing racers to grab take-out bags filled with various food items such as burgers, steak kebabs, pizza, and donuts. And yes, Cow can consume all of these, including the potentially controversial beef products.
IGN shared a tweet confirming that Cow can indeed eat steak, and during their session, they observed Cow eating a burger as well. Interestingly, while other characters change costumes upon consuming these items, Cow showed no visible effects. This has led to speculation: Is Cow eating for pleasure? Is there a hidden power-up linked to burger consumption that Nintendo has yet to reveal? Or are these perhaps veggie burgers and plant-based kebabs?
IGN reached out to Nintendo for clarification but has yet to receive a response. They humorously suggested that Nintendo's silence might be due to their busy schedule at the New York event rather than the absurdity of the question.
