Chrono Trigger: 30th Anniversary Celebration Kicks Off
Chrono Trigger Celebrates 30 Years with Upcoming Projects and a Special Concert
Square Enix is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the beloved JRPG, Chrono Trigger, with a series of exciting projects launching throughout the year. While details remain scarce, the announcement hints at possibilities beyond a simple re-release, fueling speculation among fans who have long awaited a proper remake or modern console port.
Despite its iconic status and enduring popularity, Chrono Trigger has yet to receive a full-fledged remake since its initial release. While available on PC and mobile platforms, a definitive modern version remains a cherished wish among players. This anniversary announcement, however, offers a glimmer of hope.
The immediate celebration takes the form of a special concert showcasing Chrono Trigger's legendary soundtrack. This YouTube livestream will air on March 14th at 7:00 p.m. PT and continue into the early hours of the following morning.
For those unfamiliar, Chrono Trigger is a timeless classic, a time-traveling RPG developed by a legendary team including Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy), Yuji Horii (Dragon Quest), and Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball).
Originally launched in 1995 for the Super Famicom and SNES, the game follows Crono and his companions on an epic adventure through various eras, from prehistoric times to a dystopian future. Players recruit allies, alter history, and confront one of gaming's most memorable final bosses.
While a remake or console port remains unconfirmed, Square Enix's announcement keeps the possibility alive. Fans are encouraged to follow Chrono Trigger's X page for the latest updates on upcoming projects. Check out this list of the best JRPGs to play on iOS right now!
