Captain America: Brave New World Expected to Surpass $100M at Domestic Box Office During Presidents Day Weekend
The latest Marvel Studios film, *Captain America: Brave New World*, has soared past initial projections, securing an impressive $100 million in domestic box office earnings over the Presidents Day holiday weekend. According to Comscore, the movie grossed an estimated $88.5 million across 4,105 theaters over the traditional three-day weekend, with projections reaching $100 million over the four-day holiday. Internationally, the film added another $92.4 million, bringing its global weekend total to an estimated $192.4 million.
With a reported production budget of $180 million, *Captain America: Brave New World* has a break-even point set at approximately $425 million globally. The film's opening performance marks it as the fourth-best Presidents Day launch on record, trailing only behind other superhero blockbusters like *Black Panther* ($242 million), *Deadpool* ($152 million), and *Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania* ($120 million).
Despite its robust box office start, *Captain America: Brave New World* has faced mixed critical reception, with IGN giving it a 5/10 rating. In our review, we noted that the film "feels neither brave, nor all that new," despite commendable performances from stars Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, and Carl Lumbly.
The film's performance is crucial for Marvel, as the studio looks to reverse a downward trend in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's recent releases, excluding the successful *Deadpool & Wolverine* from last year. All eyes are now on *Captain America: Brave New World* to see if it can maintain momentum leading into upcoming MCU films such as *Thunderbolts* in May and *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* in July.
