Monster Hunter Wilds simplifies many series mechanics, minimizing the need for extensive monster tracking. However, one exception remains: the Black Flame. Here's how to locate it.

Tracking the Black Flame in Monster Hunter Wilds

Around the midpoint of Monster Hunter Wilds' Chapter 3 storyline, the Black Flame will appear before retreating to the Oilwell Basin. Your task is to locate and defeat it.

Exit Base Camp and proceed to Zone 9 of the Oilwell Basin (see map below).

Along the way, you'll discover tar tracks. Examine them; your Hunter will follow the Black Flame's trail, automatically alerting the scoutflies. This allows effortless tracking. Simply follow the green path illuminated by the scoutflies in Zone 9, leading to the large flaming crater where the Black Flame awaits.

The Black Flame (also known as Nu Udra) is a tentacled beast wielding fire-based attacks. Strategically targeting and severing a few tentacles first significantly simplifies the battle, granting easier access to its core weak points and maximizing material acquisition after its defeat.

To counter the region's intense heat and prevent continuous health depletion, carry several Cool Drinks.
