"Beware: The Witcher 4 Beta Tests Are Scams, Says Developer"
CD Projekt Red has issued an official warning to players about a widespread scam involving fake beta test invites for *The Witcher 4*. The developer confirmed that no beta testing is currently underway and urged players to remain vigilant against fraudulent messages circulating online.
CD Projekt Red Addresses Beta Test Scam
In response to increasing reports from the community, CD Projekt Red took to the official *The Witcher* Twitter (X) account on April 16 to clarify that there are no ongoing beta tests for *The Witcher 4*, and any invitations claiming otherwise are part of a scam. The studio emphasized that they are actively working to remove these deceptive messages from circulation.
"We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."
The developer also reassured fans that any future beta opportunities will be officially announced first via *The Witcher*'s verified websites and social media channels. Players are encouraged to double-check the authenticity of any message before engaging with it.
Ciri as the New Protagonist – Developer Insights
*The Witcher 4* was officially unveiled during The Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a cinematic trailer showcasing Ciri as the game's new protagonist. This marked a significant shift from the series’ tradition of featuring Geralt of Rivia as the main character, sparking intense discussion among fans.
In a follow-up interview with VGC, Narrative Director Phillipp Weber acknowledged the emotional connection many fans have with Geralt. However, he expressed confidence in the team’s creative direction with Ciri, stating that the decision to make her the lead character was not made lightly.
"The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."
Positive Feedback Encourages Development Team
Executive Producer Małgorzata Mitręga also shared appreciation for the passionate support received from the community since the announcement.
"Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."
Mitręga emphasized that the team remains focused on delivering a compelling narrative and immersive gameplay experience centered around Ciri’s journey. According to developers, *The Witcher 4* will be the most ambitious entry in the franchise yet, introducing expansive new regions, unique monsters, and deeper storytelling mechanics.
