Batman & Deadpool Unite in Historic DC-Marvel Crossover

The long-standing rivalry between Marvel and DC takes a historic pause as the comic giants prepare to release their first crossover titles since 2003's JLA/Avengers. This unprecedented collaboration fittingly stars none other than Batman and Deadpool.

Entertainment Weekly exclusively reports that Marvel and DC will jointly release two special one-shot comics featuring the iconic Dark Knight and the anarchic Merc With a Mouth. Marvel's contribution, Deadpool/Batman #1, comes from writer Zeb Wells (The Amazing Spider-Man) and artist Greg Capullo (Batman). DC's counterpart, Batman/Deadpool #1, features legendary writer Grant Morrison (Batman) and artist Dan Mora (Superman/Batman: World's Finest). Both issues will include bonus stories pairing other fan-favorite characters from both universes.

This collaboration marks the first official Marvel/DC crossover in over two decades (excluding Fortnite's Omniverse event). The tradition dates back to 1976's groundbreaking Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man, with several notable crossovers following throughout subsequent decades.

"These events become generational milestones," explains DC's President and Publisher Jim Lee to EW. "The timing must feel organic - not overused but truly special. Aligning both companies requires extraordinary coordination beyond creative decisions, including complex revenue sharing. The story must justify the immense anticipation."

Regarding the unconventional Batman-Deadpool pairing, Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley cites the characters' contrasting personalities as ideal for an entertaining dynamic.

"The combination simply felt irresistibly fun," Buckley states. "Imagine the comedic potential when Deadpool's irreverence clashes with Batman's intensity - humorous yet potentially violent. Our goal is to create an exciting experience that reminds readers why comics are special, attracting both new and returning fans."

Deadpool/Batman #1 hits stores on September 17, 2025, with Batman/Deadpool #1 following in November. EW also confirms that Marvel and DC are already developing additional crossover one-shots for 2026, though participating characters remain under wraps.
