Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)
In *Path of Exile 2*, much like its predecessor and other action RPGs, enhancing your character's power can be both straightforward and complex. Anointing is one such mechanic that can significantly boost your capabilities, but it requires a bit of understanding. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to anoint in *Path of Exile 2*.
How To Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2
Anointing in *Path of Exile 2* becomes available later in the game, as it hinges on acquiring Distilled Emotions. These are akin to Blight Oils from the first game and are essential for anointing. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering. You can obtain them primarily through Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random assortment of Distilled Emotions upon completion. Alternatively, you can acquire them via currency exchange or the trade market.
To upgrade your Distilled Emotions, utilize the Reforging Bench. By combining three of the same type, you can create an upgraded version of that emotion, allowing you more control over your anointing process.
For a more challenging approach, you can attempt to gather Distilled Emotions from Simulacrum waves, though this method is less efficient and demands a robust character build due to the increased difficulty.
How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2
Currently in Early Access, *Path of Exile 2* allows you to anoint both amulets and Waystones. Future updates might expand these options. To anoint an amulet, open the Instilling window by selecting any Distilled Emotion. Place the amulet in the center box and arrange three Distilled Emotions in the boxes below. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing ability are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller to see the requirements.

Remember, the skills you choose to anoint can vary based on your build, and anointing isn't permanent. You can always re-anoint an amulet with a different skill, effectively adapting it to your evolving playstyle.
Similarly, anointing Waystones can make them more challenging but also increase the quality of loot they drop. Note that neither amulets nor Waystones can be anointed if they are corrupted.
With these steps, you're equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, tailoring them to your current build, or challenging yourself by anointing Waystones in *Path of Exile 2*.
*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
